Exchange Program

Each year, AGSEV proudly supports the European Schools Exchange Program by helping to connect visiting students with welcoming host families in our school community.

As the school is opening the application process for students in S4 in 2025-2026 who wish to participate in the 2026–2027 exchange, the AGSEV Exchange Team is also preparing to assist incoming students by finding kind and committed families to host them during their stay.

If you’re considering becoming a host family, take a look at our FAQ below for more details. For any questions or to express your interest, please contact us at exchanges@agsev.it — we’ll be happy to get in touch with you!

FAQ

Hosting a Student
→ (European Schools Exchange Program)

What does being a host family involve?

Beyond offering board and lodging, host families play a key role in integrating the student into daily life and guiding them with parental care.

Have an open conversation about:

→ Location and logistics (many families live in rural areas around Varese, which might complicate the organization of non scholastic activities).

→ Accommodation: what kind of accommodation can be offered (shared/private bedroom, bathroom, ..).

→ Free time: balancing the guest’s and your family’s routines.

→ Money: hobbies, trips, shared cost and especially household contribution if not a reciprocal exchange.

→ Medical matters: physical and psychological health status, insurance coverage.

→ Rules: chores, curfews, sleepovers, parties, diet and dietary rules (sweets, alcohol), screen time, transport use.

For mobilities there must be no additional cost to the hosting school. Each participating pupil will meet his/her financial obligations (school fees).
However, day trips or different books might cause additional costs.

Given the logistics of the European school of Varese, meaning most families being widely spread within the region, transport to school needs to be discussed at an early stage of the process. The Cooperativa Trasporti does accommodate exchange students in their buses, but subscription needs to take place by July. Contracts run for the time of the exchange and are between Cooperativa Trasporti and the family of the guest student. https://www.trasportisev.eu/

As all students of the European school, guest students can bring their own lunch or eat in the Mensa. If the guest students eats in the Mensa there are two options:

→ The guest student is added to the Melix account of the hosting family and the hosting family gets reimbursed by the parents of the visiting student at the end of the stay, depending on consumption.

→ The family of the guest students becomes a member of the cooperative Mensa and deals directly with the Mensa.
