The European School of Varese
Founded in 1960, the European School of Varese is one of only 13 official European Schools in the EU—and the only ‘official’ one located in Italy. Nestled in the city of Varese, it was originally established to educate the children of staff from the Joint Research Centre in Ispra. Today, subject to availability, the school also welcomes students from outside that community.
With around 1,300 students representing over 50 nationalities, Varese is a vibrant, medium-sized school in the European Schools network, offering a truly international learning environment.
The school is organized into three educational cycles—nursery, primary, and secondary—and features five language sections: Italian, English, French, German, and Dutch. It also provides mother tongue instruction for students from all EU member states, ensuring both academic excellence and cultural diversity at its core.

Life at the European School of Varese with AGSEV
Being part of the AGSEV community means having access to a rich variety of activities, services, and events that support both students and families throughout the school year.
We help coordinate and support a wide range of after-school activities, offering students opportunities to explore interests beyond the classroom. Families can also benefit from international exchange programs, which connect students across the European Schools network.
AGSEV contributes to some of the most memorable moments in school life—from organizing graduation celebrations for P5 and BAC students to supporting school trips, cultural events, and the vibrant European Day, which brings together our diverse community in celebration.
We collaborate at school with two other parent-led organizations: COMSEV, which manages the school canteen (mensa), and COTSEV, which oversees the bus services.
Throughout the year, we also take part in several meetings with the school leadership and the school inspector to represent parents’ views and concerns. Additionally, we participate in the Interparents group, which brings together representatives from all 13 European Schools. This collaboration allows us to exchange experiences, share concerns, and work collectively toward meaningful improvements across the European School system.
