Class Representation
Volunteering to be a class representative or vice rep, is a real contribution to building and maintaining our community – we are part of the European peace process! Elections are organised by your class teacher during the first parent-teacher meeting in September.
Role: We would warmly invite Reps of every age group to organise at least one communal event where families or parents can meet and get to know each other socially. If you need help finding venues please reach out to the whole-school Class Rep WhatsApp group where ‘locals’ will be happy to help you.
In Materna and Primary you will need to collect and hold a class fund and support your teacher with additional purchases. In Middle and Secondary we need class reps to keep families connected to each other and the AGSEV Board, to access maximum community support in parenting our children through their pedagogical and social lives.
Representing Parents
The AGSEV Board plays a key role in representing the voices of parents within the European School of Varese.
By joining the Board, you help strengthen the link between families and the school, ensuring that parents’ perspectives are heard and respected in key decisions. Board members collaborate with class representatives, attend Education Council meetings, and participate in discussions that shape our children’s school experience.
Together, we work to build a supportive and inclusive community where parents actively contribute to improving the quality of education and life at the European School of Varese.
AGSEV represents
& supports all the parents
1. Education Councils
AGSEV Board members support all our parents and class reps, particularly during dedicated parent-teacher-management meetings called: ‘Education Councils’, usually held in December and June. The cost of obligatory school trips is voted on during the first secondary school Education Council.
2. Volunteerism
We connect and support parents with essential volunteer roles in our school, from class representation to events organisation. If you would like to make something happen, please get in touch and we will do our best to help you succeed.
Please keep scrolling down to see more information about volunteer opportunities with the AGSEV board.
3. Democracy
The AGSEV Board is made up of Language Section & SWALs representatives with the aim of properly understanding and supporting our linguistically and culturally diverse families. We support families with issues of inclusion, diversity and special needs. Our President and Vice Presidents participate in whole school governance meetings, ‘Administration Boards’, usually held in September and January.
European spirit & Interparent
The Interparent (IP) volunteers on our Board work together with IP reps from all the 13 traditional schools and increasingly with the 24 Accredited Schools to contribute our stakeholder perspective to the evolving and dynamic European Baccalaureate system. Interparents work with our decision makers in Brussels in the Office of the Secretary General (OSG), and attend the whole -system Joint Teaching Committee (JTC), usually held in October & February.
When you join the AGSEV Board you will become a Section Head – the focal point for Class Reps in your Section – or one of 5 SWALS Reps.
As a Board Member you will need to contribute at least 2-3 hours per month to the role.
What is AGSEV board
Role #1 is to attend the Education Council Meetings twice a year and represent the feedback from your Language Sections – both positive and critical. We’ll support you! Please see page 15 of the General Rules ‘Education Councils’ for more details.
Role #2 join the AGSEV Board monthly meetings to discuss matters which Parents are invited to feedback on as key stakeholders of the School.** We are all volunteers, offering our free time to support our children in a calm & professional manner.
In time you may become interested in the work of the Interparents (IP). Parents sit on the Board of Governors of the European Schools which impacts on the European Baccalaureate qualification. See the General Rules again from that perspective!
Role #3: Board members are invited to choose an activity working group to participate in, to learn more about the system and find ways to use your unique talents and skills.
We are also an organisation providing services, insurance for school volunteers, creating the school calendar & events, building community & providing funds to students.
To become the Section and/or SWALS Representative from the Parents Association of the European School of Varese (AGSEV) you need to fill in an application form.
