SCROLL DOWN
OUR PATH TO A GREENER SCHOOL
1
FOOD & NUTRITION
Parent volunteers are working hard to create the best food environment for our children in our canteen – see the COMSEV website for more.
Parents reached out to local business ‘Yorganic‘ and the school community can now order organic produce and other local products and pick them up near the school on Tuesday afternoon – or at other drop off points as shown on the website.
We support the Slow Food movement and we would welcome more ideas and access points to fresh, local produce.
2
WATER
Tap water in the Varese area is very clean and better for health than plastic bottled water which is easily contaminated with microplastics while it travels.
We are proud to have produced a video together with the Provincia di Varese and Dottor Maria Teresa Maurello of ISDE – International Society of Doctors for the Environment.
We celebrate World Water Day on 22nd of March.
3
WASTE
Every year AGSEV organizes a second-hand swap ‘n sale in November to mark European Waste Reduction day and we support the school in organising clothes swaps during Europe Day and the Primary Christmas Party.
We’re also happy to join the JRC Green Team when they go plogging every year. We support the Provincia di Varese’s ‘Spese Sballate‘ project at ‘Varese sostenibile‘. We support Plastic Free Fridays with our snacks unwrapped campaign, and work to spread awareness of the impact single-use plastics are having on our health and our oceans.
4
CIRCULAR
We are proud to have launched O-Marché, a dedicated second-hand exchange app supporting reuse and sustainability within the ESV school community. The app helps our parents to circulate their toys, children’s clothes and school textbooks. Read the news and sign up here.
Every year AGSEV is offering a text-book swap event at school and the JRC.
We are happy to support the JRC Green Team with their monthly Repair Cafe initiative.
5
TRANSPORT
Transport creates the largest footprint in our community: taking the bus is the best option.
To help reduce car congestion around the school gates, parents have organised a Walk to School week, and now Forest walk Fridays.
Our children are taught cycling skills in P2.
6
BIODIVERSITY
Our school has created many gardening opportunities for our children. There is a greenhouse, water butts, composting boxes and volunteers are organizing planting events.
Please contact AGSEV to see how you might support our school to fully use its gardens.
7
ENERGY
Our school has installed solar panels and is working on insulating the buildings.
Varese Provincia is working towards the 2030 agenda, with plans to reduce emissions by 40%. See their plans online for more details.
