Interparents work to positively influence policy across European Schools

,

[Per l’italiano vedi sotto] The Interparents are the parent’s representatives of all the Parents’ Associations at the Brussels level for the European Schools. We bring issues to the Directors and Board of Governors with the hope of contributing positively to decision making at a policy level for the 13 schools. We are part of the task force dealing with the evolving requirements of the schools during this pandemic.

We were able to contribute positively to the most recent meeting of the Board of Governors, which subsequently saw proposals being made to invest in the technological infrastructure of the school to enable live streaming of lessons both for students unable to attend ‘in situ’ learning, and for vulnerable teachers who can teach from home, to pupils who are ‘in situ’.

Extra staff and staff hours will be budgeted for to enable vulnerable teachers to teach from home, and extra resources will be allocated for children who need educational support.

Proposals have been made to increase the stockpile of laptops and spending on digital learning coordinators in the schools to reach for greater harmonization across the schools and within the schools. Training and support are priorities.

Now the 13 schools are in the implementation phase, and the finer details of the proposals are being worked out.

There will be a meeting of the Joint Teacher’s Committee (JTC) at the beginning of October. The Interparents Team (made up of IP reps from all schools) are working together now to contribute to this meeting.

In relation to the implementation of digital policy, the InterParents suggest the creation of a task force to create electronic books for European Schools’ Syllabus. We are also working on a document on the situation of vulnerability in the pupil population. Both sets of information will feed into the schools’ evolving digital strategy.

In Varese we are very lucky that the school has already openly committed to the Online Distance Learning recommendations which is not yet the case in all the schools for various reasons, so the speed of implementation of these proposals is one of the issues which will be debated in Brussels by the IP.

As you may be aware, the European Baccalaureate was recently updated after years of planning and consultation, and a New Marking Scale was introduced. The InterParents will discuss any updates about the NMS and particularly on the equivalence tables expected from the member states. This is an ongoing discussion.
